2022年儿童媒体使用报告.pdf

Dear Friends,

2022 marked two years since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we’ve begun to see afullerpicture of the complex impact it has had on every thing from the economy and health care toeducation and mental health. And whenit comes to kids and media, the pandemic alsohad asignificant impact. Our latest Common Sense Census told us:

·Kids’use of media accelerated more in the last two years than it did in the entire four years priorto the pandemic.

·Thenumber of tweens using social media-before they’re old enough to do so-is climbing.

·Teens have mixed feelings about social media and its impact on their lives.

·Online video is officially the most-used mediaformat for kids age 8-18.

Supporting kids, families, and educators through this year of transition has required us to respondto these realities. And I’m proud to say we’ve met this challenge head-on.

To ensure we’re keeping up with where kids are finding their content, this year we expanded ourratings and reviews work by looking at new formats like podcasts and virtual reality and evaluatingthemfor both entertainment and safety. And in appreciation of today’s diverse, multiculturalfamilies,we launched our Spanish-language ratings and reviews and our community pages to helpfamilies celebrate their unique cultures and histories.

Additionally,we’re closer than ever to closing the digital divide. Our advocacy efforts helped securehistoricfunding last year to connectfamilies to high-speed broadband internet and devices, and in2022we put boots on the ground and ads on the air in Phoenix for a best-practice campaign to helpfamilies find these resources and get connected.

And finally,we are seeing new and stronger protections for kids’online privacy and safety.Californialed the way,and other states followed to pass or introduce legislation to regulate howsocial media platforms canuse kids’data, and to hold tech companies accountable hold for theharms they can bring to young people’s mental health.

But we must keep the pressure on:Youth mental health-and social media’s roleinit-will bea mainfocus for us in 2023,and we’re committed to conducting new research, providing new content andcurricular resources, and building public awareness. It’s clear that to thrive in a digital age markedby constant change, kids need skills in building and protecting both their digital and overall well-being,and we are evolving to meet that challenge.

Throughit all,we will continue to be the trusted voice for families and leverage the powerfulplatform we have builtto advance legislation to protect consumer privacy, close the digital divide, prevent exploitative data practices, and hold tech companies accountable for their impact on kidsand families.

Aswe approach our 20th anniversary, lam proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish on behalfof kids and families. But I’m alsoinspired by the leadership role we will have in the years to come asthe digital world that our kids aregrowing up in continues to evolve.

Thank you again for your support, your partnership, and your vision.
