What Are Al, ML, and Quantum Computing?Artificialintelligence (Al) is the ability of machines to mimichuman intelligence to learn, reason, and perceive.Al isdivided into two categories: narrow and general. Narrow Alrefers to the Al systems that are developed within a narrowdomain of knowledge, such as facialrecognition and naturallanguage processing. These narrow systems cannot operateor extrapolate outside the narrow domain knowledge in whichthey are developed.
General Alis an Al system capable of artificial humanequivalent intelligence, with the ability to think, learn, plan,and act when faced with novel problems. It is not limited toa narow domain of knowledge. Machines do not yet havean intelligence equivalent to that of humans, so general Al iscurently a theoretical form of technology.
Machine learning (ML) involves the capability of machines to”learn from data rather than through explicit programming,”according to IBM. ML techniques are often used in Al systems.
