The rise in snacking penetration and average number ofsnacks consumed per day can be explained by multiplefactors. The annual “State of Snacking” report releasedearlier this year by Mondelez International indicatedtoday’s consumers are looking to meet a greater varietyof needs than in the past (like health, convenience, indul-gence and energy, to name just a few).

Also, the increase in work-from-home scenarios around2021 -amid the COVID-19 pandemic-inspired an increasein snacking, as noted by research from IRl, because workersoften had food within close proximity.

But there were more factors at play, too. Simply put, muchof the world now views snacking as a daily fixture-often as away to sustain oneself or enjoy periodic treat.
